Our Journey to International Fur Federation (IFF) Certification:

I began the journey to seek IFF certification a few years ago. I wanted to provide my customers who purchase fur products to know that I have sourced from the most reputable fur suppliers aligned with IFF standards or equivalent ethical sourcing practices. The fur suppliers I work with are artisan friendly, transparent, and supportive of Indigenous values-which is the ideal match for WolfDen Designz’s sustainability and cultural goals.

I use 1 supplier at present, Bill Worb Furs in Winnipeg MB. Although they are not officially IFF certified, they are compliant with Canadian trapping and fur standards, which meets the criteria set out for ‘equivalent ethical sourcing practices.’ This coming Winter, I will be transitioning to “IFF certified only” furs. Bye switching to only IFF certified furriers, I demonstrate compliance with the International Fur Federation standards for ethical sourcing and regulations over a period of time, which only strengthens my application and will lead to certification.

In order to receive certification from the International Fur Federation and receive their “FurMark” label, I must undergo a thorough panel review by the IFF of my application as well as a “site visit” to my home studio to inspect the premises and make sure I am complying with their standards and rule. I must also submit “random samples” of the furs I wish to use in order that they can be tested in an independent laboratory to ensure that the furs met their standards for ethical sourcing & harvesting, and trapping regulations as set out by the laws of wildlife management.

WolfDen Designz will be the only Indigenous fashion house in Calgary that will be offer FurMark labels on their products, guaranting that your furs are ethically sourced and certified by the International Fur Federation.

if you have any questions or concerns regarding our furs or fur products, please feel free to reach out, I will be happy to share what I can about my process.
