I’m a multi disciplinary Mohawk artist from Lake of Two Mountains, Khanesatake, Ont. Growing up, I was fortunate to learn traditional skills such as trapping, tanning, beadwork and how to make clothing for the harsh winters in Ont. My Grandfather and his brothers would hunt in the fall for meat, and the hides of the animals would be tanned and used by our family. No part of the animal went to waste, and I do my very best to continue this today in my work.
In 2023, I was the recipient of the Amy Willier Award for Indigenous Artisans from the Made in Alberta Awards. My raised beadwork trilliums won in this category.
Later in 2023, I was asked by Danielle Piper, the founder of Wasakamapiwak Collective to become a member, and my artistic practice has expanded to learn different skills such as needle felting, embroidery and goldwork just to name a few. Learning from other Indigenous artisans in the collective has become a game changer for this budding fashion designer, and I am grateful to have learned these traditional skills and the time I spent in these residencies. The new year long campaign I am launching this year will have seasonal themes, new content, and even a blog where you can follow along and get an “inside the studio” look at my process, heritage, and award winning Indigenous jewelry.
